This is brilliant! I often think about the difference between design and advertising. During my advertising class, I didn’t get it. I even disliked it at the time. But talking with my friend, Anthony Dimarco, an aspiring art director, I realized that advertising is more about a clear message than design. For lack of better terms, I think of it like a “one note” sort of idea; the need to have a message that is obvious and engaging; something that is readily relatable and identifiable. And clever! Something that makes people say, “I wish I thought of that.” That’s how I look at it. There’s some great literature about the difference between the two that I mean to look into…
